Cancer, from our perspective, is a life taking illness that can cause sadness both for the patient and to those close to him/her. But from the patients view it is much worse, to them, it is a state where suffering is inevitable, from finding out you’re ill, to the curing process, and finally to the point of using routine maintenance to guarantee that cancer won’t come back. Now imagine how that person feels, comforting a person with this kind of emotional stress can’t be easy. Luckily, much like any subject, it can be learned, try using the following to help your friend or family member get through his/her sickness.
First off try preparing, even if you can talk and say heartfelt words to comfort a friend thinking of what to say before saying it can’t hurt, in fact, it can be more meaningful and be appreciated by the receiving end. Try running some errands, because they are limited by their illness helping out like buying some groceries, washing dishes, doing chores and etc. can cause the person to feel loved thus avoiding negative thinking. Form a support team, nothing says “We Love You” like a group of close family and friends caring and wanting you to get better. And lastly, after the treatment, many patients would want to find their “new normal” never forget that friendships are one of the things that are stable in the past try not ruining it in the present. With these suggestions, you can help a cancer patient in so many ways.
